On Thursday, the 29 of September, the sixth grade went to Camp Hanes. I’ve never been to a sleep away camp before! I was a little worried. We took a bus but I was one of the last people on, so I couldn’t sit with my friends. Once we got on the road the teachers turned on Madagascar. The movie was good, but I could barely hear because I was so far away. I also brought a coloring book and Scumble, the book I was reading. The trip was about 2 hours long. Finally we were at Camp Hanes.
We had to skip some of the activities because of the rain from Hurricane Ian but out of the activities we did, I really liked the hike. It was a three mile hike up a mountain. Half a mile up, half a mile down. We hiked with a few stops on the way. Every now and then, there were areas where we needed to use a rope to climb. At the end of the hike we left all of our stuff at the bottom of a steep hill and we used the rope to climb up. The view was amazing. We could see so many cool things!
I really liked going to Camp Hanes. It was my first sleep away camp and I would love to go again. I’m very proud of our group’s team building challenge. We worked together pretty well and all listened to each other’s ideas. I overcame a lot on the trip but one of the main things was my teamwork. On the canoes I really wanted to go fast and take control. So I had to learn to let everyone have a turn. I loved the trip to Camp Hanes. Everyone there was so nice and we had such a fun time.
