When I was reading The Last Cuentista, I learned how important stories are. The Last Cuentista is a book about a girl named Petra who lives in the year 2060. In the beginning, she has to escape earth with a few people because Halley’s Comet is coming back to hit earth. While getting on the ship, the people who can’t come and have to live their last days on earth, attack one of the ships so the ship cant fly. Luckily Petra and her family were on a different ship. The ship that was attacked help all the politics and leaders of Earth. The leaders on the ship decide to wipe the passengers memory of earth so they can make a perfect world. To get this perfect world, they cant let anyone have an opinion, name, emotions, or anything that makes a person, a person. While getting strapped in, Petra’s cog malfunctioned. Now she has to escape with her friends and stories her grandmother told her to make their own world.
In this book, the leaders of the ship kept on talking about their ideal world. In
Language Arts, we had a assignment to create our ideal world. My ideal world is called Cosmo. We have cotton candy trees with candy cane bark. Here candy is healthy so you can’t get sick eating the food around you. No one here can die of old age so if you are careful, you can live to be really old. In Cosmo, the weather is 70-80 degrees constantly and only rains when needed.
After we made our ideal world,we made a handmade book with Peg Gignoux a local artist. First we inked some beautiful prints on paper to use. Then we started making the actual book. This book isn’t like a regular book. Once you open the cover we made a page that pulled out. Once you pull it out we have a beautiful collage image of my planet. We glued our ideal world on the sides and also a family stories because The Last Cuentista is all about family stories. I told the story about how my grandma sat on a bat. It is a really funny story.
